The Russian company Astrum Entertainment conducted a study to find out the attitude of gamers towards their children’s passion for computer games. Almost 6,000 people took part in the survey, and most of them were completely okay with their children having the same hobby as them. About a third of those surveyed play with their children, and more than half not only do not consider games harmful, but even see benefits in them.
The full survey statistics are as follows:
- About 32% of players have preschool-aged children, and 57% have schoolchildren. They spend time with them as follows:
- 54% – walking
- 39% watch cartoons, films and TV series
- 33% play video games.
- 73% of respondents allow children to play video games. Of them:
- 23% do not limit children’s play in any way.
- 38% allow playing after school and compulsory activities.
- 12% – allowed to play only during the holidays
- Also highlighted are visits to shopping and entertainment centers, physical and board games and reading.
- 52% of respondents see benefits in games, and 23% have never thought about it. Potential benefits include the following:
- 33% – development of reaction speed and decision-making;
- 31% – development of strategic thinking;
- 22% – training in perseverance and desire to win;
- 21% – mastering new technologies;
- 16% each – socialization and outburst of emotions;
- 8% – assistance with studies
- They also mention the development of fantasy, knowledge of the characteristics and mentality of other cultures, times and realities, the development and consolidation of important value concepts, the development of empathy and much more.
- 59% are not against their child connecting his life with the games industry. The following professions are distinguished:
- 23% each are a game designer and a programmer;
- 16% – artist;
- 13% – project manager;
- Also noted are the professions of tester, screenwriter and eSports player.
