Introduction

Another interactive storytelling from LEGO compares favorably with its predecessors. There’s a brand new variation on the Justice League’s fight against evil, a successful attempt at recreating Gotham, and voiced LEGO figures. As a competitor to the Arkham games, this novelty may not be very strong, but the ambitions of the series are clearly growing.

With LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes, the developers decided to keep up with serious projects like Batman Arkham City. They swung at the concept of an open world. True, Gotham City, available almost immediately for free movement, is several times smaller than even Arkham’s competitors. The city is decorated with taste and is replete with various LEGO elements on the facades, as well as in the interiors of the visited establishments. Sometimes it rains here, which adds a special charm to the atmosphere.

Another innovation directly changes the presentation of the game story. Lego men are now talking! All the characters have speech. The sound quality of each of them is at a very high level. This can attract a completely new audience to the game, who were afraid to play a dubious product for children in particular and because of poor-quality interaction between characters.

Plot

If you decide to download Lego Batman 2, then you should know that the plot of the game at first glance is very little different from the same Arkham City and Arkham Asylum – again, escape from the hospital prison, again the Joker is to blame for everything.

However, the matter here will not be limited to Batman’s main enemy, otherwise why would there be a postscript about the DC universe in the title of the game. Lex Luthor, the villain from the Superman comics, arrives in Gotham from Metropolis on his mysterious business. He is opposed to Bruce Wayne. The game itself begins when Gotham’s top philanthropist and philanthropist receives a special “Person of the Year” award instead of Luthor, which makes him very upset, especially since he regularly thinks about the presidency. Our villain spends all his talents and money on power and illegal research. He has a special plan, and only the Joker can help him, whom he soon releases from the mental hospital.

While LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes has its own storyline, it’s great to have, but it’s way too scripted. There are places where you can choose the order of missions, but there are no hints of non-linearity, or there is no variability in the passage.

Of course, all the Evil of the big city is united in order to capture Gotham, but in response, Good must also unite. Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, and many other characters from the DC universe will wedged into the narrative from time to time. You can always play as them in the free roam mode in the metropolis, but during the passage of the single player campaign, most of the time you will have to control only three heroes: Batman, Superman and Robin.

Super abilities

Let’s move on to superpowers. Superman is able to fly and is very strong. Robin and Batman are ordinary people who simply cannot defeat hordes of opponents. To help them in the game there is a special system of changing clothes directly in the middle of the level.

If you download the Lego Batman 2 game and remove the dressing up, then the gameplay would slide into the tedious destruction of various obstacles and the search for passages to the next videos and locations. Here, the player needs to break the cubes, find special parts in them and assemble mechanisms from them that allow them to get to the pedestals-changing rooms.

Output

LEGO Batman 2 sets a new bar today. This is not a record yet, but the departure from the direct application of licenses, the sandbox city, the emergence of high-quality voice acting is worth a lot. This game still has some pretty childish issues that put off demanding adults, such as the lack of a co-op mode or a crooked camera. But changes for the better have begun, and the main thing here is not to stop at what has already been achieved.
