Slasher films live by a simple law: young people have sex and then die. Halloweenan asymmetrical PvP adaptation of the cult franchise about Michael Myers, did not particularly abuse genre cliches, but one of the mechanics still directly referred to this trope. Two players could hide in a closet together and have sex for temporary buffs, but just days after the Early Access launch (available only to Collector’s Edition owners), developers Illfonic quietly removed this feature.
Apparently, the change was made without any announcement. The latest patch note doesn’t mention the mini-game at all, but it’s actively talked about in the comments. In a thread on the Steam forum, one user wrote “PUT THE MINI-GAME BACK IN THE CLOSET” and repeated this phrase five times in a row. Other players have noticed that Linda, the flirtatious, playable town resident who previously received additional bonuses from this mechanic, has also had her corresponding trait removed – this is confirmed by simply starting the game.
The community reaction on social networks was predictably negative. User Choice-Scholar-2297 wrote on Reddit: “This sucks as hell.” A thread on the game’s subreddit called “Please bring back the sex mini-game” is quickly gaining popularity – in the original post, user freetheree is outraged:
Why did they remove this?! My friend and I just want to have sex in the closet? And we can’t???? How so????
There are already a lot of jokes on this topic on the Internet, and there is indeed a comical element to it: if the change remains in force, it turns out that sex in the closet was an exclusive mechanic, available only for a short time as part of pre-order. However, Illfonic’s decision may have a very serious justification.
The fact is that players are already speculating about the true reason for removing the function. After death, characters can be reborn as older characters, such as a police officer or Dr. Loomis, Michael Myers’s therapist. This in itself is not a problem, but the situation becomes much more ambiguous when you consider that such characters could potentially initiate a sex mini-game with a schoolgirl – Laurie Strode is only 17 years old in the game’s version of events.
Illfonic has not yet confirmed that this is the reason for the patch, but it is difficult to imagine a more convincing explanation for what happened.
