Gamemode One studio, an official partner of Mojang, announced the AI Players add-on, which populates the single-player world Minecraft bots that behave like real players. The illusion of multiplayer works completely offline, without connecting to the network.
Typically, playing together requires a server, a Realm subscription, a local network, or an invitation via the Internet. In 2026, Mojang even added a friends list and P2P connection to the Java Edition, making it easier to connect real people.
AI Players does exactly the opposite. Instead of making it easier for real players to access, the expansion fills the world with a simulated alien presence.
The video shows how the player opens the “Manage Current AI Players” menu using a special gadget. The list includes different characters, skins and nicknames in the style of regular servers.
Bots can be invited to the world individually or banned through a separate moderation menu. Once invited, they appear under names like SpookySeven2224, EngineeredClone, Kipper and GODLYCHICKEN.
Several such characters can be active at the same time. In the trailer, they wander around, interact with each other, and gather around a campfire.
Bots mine resources, craft items, open chests, fight mobs and independently explore the territory. Judging by this, they will not limit themselves to simply following a real player.
Despite the name, generative AI or cloud-based LLM are not used here. The developers explained the situation in response to the comment.
It’s called AI Players, but made by people.
The studio added that the bots run on traditional gaming AI, similar to the behavior of regular mobs Minecraft. It is this approach that allows simulated players to function without an active Internet connection.
This also distinguishes AI Players from experiments like a working chatbot in the ChatGPT style, which was previously assembled inside the game itself on redstone.
The add-on will be released in the Minecraft Marketplace, that is, it will be available for the Bedrock Edition. Such add-ons modify existing worlds without installing classic Java mods.
Gamemode One has not yet revealed the release date and price.
