In FromSoftware games, the most coveted weapon usually isn’t found in a chest behind the boss, but inside a run-of-the-mill enemy that needs to be killed roughly a thousand times.

And somewhere around the 500th corpse you begin to understand that the game is not making fun of you, but is simply testing how much you want a beautiful gilded piece of hardware.

We are talking about the thin blade of a noble (Noble’s Slender Sword) from Elden Ringa fine noble sword dropped by wandering nobles in Storm’s End, Liurnia, and Altus.

One of the players admittedthat in more than 1000 hours and dozens of characters, including builds with pumped-up mysticism, I have not seen this blade even once. At the same time, he understands with his mind that the weapon is good, but does not understand why it is so much superior to other swords.

And it surpasses it quite specifically. The sword works on the moveset of a long sword, the most reliable in its class, but at the same time it hits significantly further than any soldier analogue, which in PvP turns into free pokes from a distance. Attached to this is a set of little things that make up a reputation:

  • the requirements are only 10 strength and 12 dexterity, so even astrologers and bandits take the blade without investing in strength

  • excellent agility scaling and very good response to elemental infusions

  • critical modifier 110 instead of the standard hundred, that is, parries and backstabs hit harder

  • combat skill “Square Off”, a simple and versatile stance with a thrust and a horizontal strike

A separate part of the mythology of this blade, copy-paste, which the community regularly republishes every time the sword is mentioned. It was written on behalf of a hereditary aristocrat who despises the poor plebeians with their explosions, teleports and other voodoo, and ends with a mocking congratulation:

Only the luckiest and most privileged noble assassins wield this luxurious death stick. It’s you. You won. Congratulations, winner.

The icing on the cake is a random number generator that distributes luck with trademark cruelty. Someone farms for an hour and gets two swords in a row, someone spent fifty hours on them, and someone picked up a blade right after Storm’s End, considered it trash and sold it to a merchant for a couple of hundred runes.
