Among Us: how to set up controls

Among Us was primarily designed to be played on mobile, so if you’re playing the PC version, which is very popular, you’ll probably want to switch to the keyboard. You can control your character and perform actions using the keyboard, but you can’t officially change keyboard shortcuts yet. You will have to use alternative methods, which we will discuss below.

The game actually came out in 2018, but didn’t really catch on until 2020, when it became a sensation on streaming platforms. For those not in the know, this is a social deduction game set in a space base. She is invaded by an alien who looks exactly the same as the other characters. There are two types of players in the match: the aliens themselves, called traitors, and crew members. Your job as a crew member is to figure out who the impostor is.

Switching to a keyboard should give PC players an added edge. In this case, you do not have to quickly move the mouse, since the fingers will be directly on the keys, which is very convenient.

By default, game play in Among Us is controlled using the mouse, which corresponds to the touch screen on mobile devices. However, there is an option to switch to the keyboard to perform actions faster.

  • Open “Settings” and then select “Keyboard + Mouse”

In this case, you will still be able to use the mouse, but this option adds keyboard controls:

  • WASD/arrow keys: motion
  • E/Space: action, sabotage or ventilation
  • TAB: map
  • Q: kill/attack
  • R: report a dead body
  • ESC: cancel/close task
  • Alt+Enter: full screen mode

How to remap keys

Until a patch is released, there is no way to officially change the key bindings in Among Us. However, you can use special tools to change the controls. Programs like AutoHotKey are best for this.

  • Download AutoHotKey here
  • Create an .ahk file and paste the following text:

#IfWinActive, Among Us
{
Numpad8::w
Numpad4::a
Numpad5::s
Numpad6::d
Numpad7::q
Numpad9::e
Numpad1::r
return
}

As you remember, WASD is the movement keys, Q is the kill/attack key, E is the action key, and so on. Simply replace the keys with whatever you want, which will change the original binding. A complete list of AutoHotKey key names is available at link.
