The smartphone is fully assembled by robots
On August 11, Xiaomi held a 10th Anniversary New Product Launch Event. At the conference, Lei Jun, co-founder, and CEO of the company confirmed that a new smart factory in Yizhuang, Beijing has begun operations. It produces the latest flagship Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra.
Back in November 2019, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi was building a smart factory using 5G technology and artificial intelligence. Now, nine months later, the company has confirmed the commissioning of the facility.
This 18,600 square meter plant is equipped with a “fully automated production line covering all processes from production control to machining, packaging and storage.” It is capable of producing over 1 million smartphones per year.
Xiaomi has created this facility for the production of high quality premium smartphones. In addition, the plant will also be used for testing the latest materials, technologies and manufacturing processes, as well as for preliminary research and R&D on automation equipment.
The company currently only produces the Mi 10 Ultra in this factory. But in the future, other flagships of the company will also be assembled on it.
