Interface

One of the most important elements of the interface is your inventory.

1: This part of the inventory shows what is on the ground next to the player. You can pick up items from the ground by holding the left mouse button on an object and then dragging it into your inventory.

2: Starting from the left side is a slot for regular clothes, a slot for a vest where you can also store items (like a first aid kit) and a slot for your backpack.

3: Starting from the left side – helmet slot, sunglasses slot, night vision goggle slot, binocular or rangefinder slot.

4: Items that are stored in your vest or backpack.

5: your main weapon and slots for its attachments (silencer, laser dot, scope, magazines).

6: anti-tank weapons and slots for their attachments (silencer, laser dot, ammo).

7: your secondary weapon and slots for its attachments (silencer, laser dot, scope, clips)

HUD

In addition to the inventory, there are other interface elements that are worth paying attention to.

1: Shows the names of your team members, as well as icons indicating which car your teammate is in.

2: Shows information about your weapon, such as the amount of ammo, grenades, and scope reset.

3: Shows the position you are currently in.

Navigation

Compass - Navigation - Gameplay Basics - Arma III - Beta - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The ability to navigate the battlefield is extremely important, especially during a firefight. There are no enemies with red markers above their heads, so you will have to use the available tools.

Compass

More often than not, you will be forced to use a compass. Your team members often use phrases like “enemy, 200 meters, west” in both single player missions and multiplayer. Then it’s best to use the compass, which is accessed by default with the K key. You may also see a “bearing” on your compass. The bearing is a set of numbers that are spaced along the edges of the compass. For example, if someone in your group says “enemy, 250”, then open the compass and turn it so that the red line is on the number 250.

Another element of navigation in the area is also the co-ordination of

Another element of navigation in the area is also the coordination

Another element of navigation in the area is also the “grid” coordination. For example, members of your party will use the phrase “enemy, grid 051035” when they detect an enemy in a certain location. To find out this location, you need to open your map (M by default). You will notice the numbers on the left and bottom of the card. Grid coordination numbers always start from the left side and then from the bottom. From each number there is a line, so you need to look at the place where the lines with numbers 051 and 035 connect with each other – there is an enemy.

Motion

An important element of the gameplay is moving around the battlefield. Strategic positioning is a priority in a firefight and can very often save your life.

To begin with, you must know about the methods of movement. In addition to the default type, of course, there is also a tactical one, which can be activated by pressing C. You will be slightly slower, but your weapon will still be raised, which can be useful in many situations.

You can also use tactical walk by pressing two keys, W and S , at the same time. This is especially important in places that are close to each other, because moving too fast can lead to your death.

Holding down the SHIFT button will put you into sprint mode, which will make you move much faster, but will also tire you out very quickly. Fatigue can significantly affect your accuracy – your machine gun starts to wobble, and this does not allow you to be accurate when shooting.

Peeking around the corner - Movement - Gameplay Basics - Arma III - Beta - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Your soldier moves upright by default, but you can switch to several different positions which can be useful in many other circumstances. Hold down the CTRL button and then press the S button to change position. Starting from an upright position, you will lower yourself to a slightly leaning, heavy lean, and then squat down. From a squat, you can progress to a more incline until you get to a seated position, from which you can transition to a prone position. During this position, you can also lie on your side, which allows you to look around the corner.

Movement is important, but very often you will find yourself in a situation where you will have to take a defensive position and hold it until you repel an enemy attack.

Peeking around a corner is incredibly useful when you’re hiding behind a building. The Q and E keys let you lean slightly to the side, while CTRL+A or D will basically stick your weapon out, making it less likely that you’ll get shot.

Difference between Q/E and CTRL+A/D

By relying on the CTRL + A / D keys, you can also fire at a high angle, which is often very useful.

They can be used in any position, both sitting and lying down.

Using the Q and E keys while prone causes you to roll sideways, while using CTRL + A/D will allow you to lie on your side and draw your weapon.

Switching optical sight

Some scopes also double, so you can switch between them, depending on whether you need to shoot at close range or from a long distance. You can do this by holding down the CTRL key and pressing RMB.

Vehicle management

In ArmA III you will find a wide variety of vehicles that you can use.

Driving armored vehicles or ordinary cars does not require great skills. Just get into the vehicles and drive them using the WSAD keys or the mouse.

Flight over Stratis

Helicopters, on the other hand, are a little more difficult. If you’ve never used helicopters in previous ArmA games, you should check out the auto-target feature. After entering the helicopter, scroll the mouse wheel and select Auto-Aim. This allows you to remain still during the flight, regardless of the direction of travel – the helicopter will automatically return to a stable position. It’s a good idea to use auto-hover when you take off or land – it makes both things easier and can sometimes save you and your passengers lives. To take to the air, you must press Q and wait a few seconds. When you are at a safe distance from the ground, disable auto-steering and use the WASD keys or mouse to navigate. The question of whether to use a keyboard or a mouse is entirely up to you and your taste.

Please note that each helicopter model differs in weight, size or armor, which affects their mobility and resistance. Not every helicopter will be operated in the same way.

Long distance shooting

Being a sniper in ArmA games is not easy and requires patience and a tactical approach.

The most important part is to keep your distance from the battlefield. Your best bet is to find yourself a hill or mountain that gives you a good view of what’s happening on the battlefield, then find a spot in the bushes and lie down. Running makes you tired, and fatigue greatly affects your accuracy.

Once you've found one, hover the red dot in the center of your rangefinder vision - Long distance shooting - Arma III - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Once you find a good position, you won’t need to look for enemies. Use the rangefinder by pressing B and find the target.

Once you find it, aim the red dot at the center of the rangefinder’s field of view. On the right side, you will notice the distance you are from this target. Remember this number and put away your rangefinders.

Now take your sniper rifle and you will have to calibrate the sighting of this weapon so that the bullet travels the desired distance. For example, if your enemy is about 1900 meters away from you, you should set the same distance to zero. You do this by pressing the Page Up (up 100m) and Page Down (down 100m) keys. You can also zoom in by pressing the + key on your numeric keypad.

After calibration, you will need to take an accurate shot. If there is a large distance between you and your target, the weapon will wobble slightly even if you are on the ground. You will then have to hold your breath, and you do this by holding down the right mouse button. Aim the red cross at the center of your target and shoot when you’re ready.

Remember – if you’re shooting at a long distance, the bullet can travel up to two or three seconds, so don’t fire the second shot too soon.
