Avatar creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko shared new details about the upcoming animated series Avatar: Seven Havens. The idea of a continuation of The Legend of Korra with an earthbender in the lead role appeared at the beginning of 2021.

The authors decided to show a world that has survived a large-scale disaster, so that viewers themselves would think about the reasons for what happened and why everyone around them hates the Avatar. It was this concept that formed the basis of the plot of the new story.

We began to discuss which Avatar would fit best into this world. Our choice fell on Pavi, a girl who is forced to hide and who is younger than both Aang and Korra.

We were interested in placing this kind-hearted heroine in a world that is not only on the verge of collapse, but also populated by people who hate the Avatar.

The events of “Seven Vaults” will unfold approximately 225 years after the ending of “The Legend of Korra.” Viewers will be introduced to Ellora, a gigantic metropolis with a population of one million people, located in a system of narrow canyons. This location protects the city from sandstorms and tornadoes that regularly plague the surrounding lands.

The creators borrowed the name of the city from the real Indian complex of cave monasteries and temples of Ellora, where the traditions of Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism intersected for centuries. In the animated series, Ellora will become a meeting place for all types of elemental magic, uniting representatives of different nations under one roof.

The city’s residents are united by the ideology of resilience, embodied in the motto “For the Survival of Ellora.” Screenwriter Sehai Sethi explained why this philosophy makes the main character’s situation especially dangerous.

Since survival is paramount to them, rumors that the Avatar, believed to be the destroyer of the world, is hiding among them, sows fear and panic. This makes the stakes of Pavi’s story incredibly high: if her true identity is revealed, the consequences could be catastrophic.

“Avatar: Seven Places” will be released on Paramount+ on October 9. The season will have 26 episodes – three episodes per week.
