The Chinese studio Game Science, which gained worldwide fame after the release of the action game Black Myth: Wukong about Sun Wukong, has published a cinematic trailer for a new project called Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The second game in the series revisits China’s classic heritage, this time focusing on the legendary demon slayer and ghost lord Zhong Kui. The project will retain the format of a single action role-playing game, continuing to develop the ideas and style laid down in the first part.
The presented video was recorded on a game engine and demonstrates the current developments of the studio. However, the authors hastened to clarify that this publication is rather symbolic in nature and dedicated to the celebration of the New Year according to the Eastern calendar. The video focuses on everyday scenes and the theme of eating, which, according to the creators, should convey an atmosphere of calm and well-being in the coming Year of the Horse. The game’s producer, Feng Ji, noted in his address to the audience that at this stage the video does not contain any footage of the gameplay or combat system, since the active phase of developing the mechanics is still ahead.
The storyline of Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be built around mythological legends and folklore, offering players a new perspective on familiar Eastern legends. Despite the lack of specific gameplay details in the video, Game Science confirmed its intention to adhere to high standards of visual execution and environment design. The studio plans to continue to use the power of modern technology to recreate traditional Chinese landscapes and supernatural creatures.
