As one of the biggest and most famous franchises in the video game industry, Call of Duty ups the ante every year with new game modes and new gaming experiences. Captivating storyline, dynamic gameplay, interesting multiplayer – the games in this series are worth a try.
Longtime Call of Duty fans are well aware that each of these games has a lot of easter eggs and various secrets. We have collected the most interesting of them, at our discretion. Yes, our list does not claim to be the most complete, and we will not consider large Easter eggs from Treyarch’s Zombies mode here either, mainly because they are more like quests than Easter eggs in the usual sense. But if you are not one of those players who know all the games of the series inside and out, then we certainly have something to surprise you with. So, the secrets of Call of Duty, which many might have missed.
Hidden Beam Cannon (World At War)
The developers at Treyarch are big fans of Easter eggs. Every game they play, starting with World at War, has a lot of hidden secrets that are sometimes quite difficult to get to. Some of these secrets, most often the most difficult ones, are related to the Zombie mode in one way or another.
However, Treyarch did not deprive players of Easter eggs in campaigns either. One of these can be found in World at War, during the passage of the mission “Weak Resistance”. At the beginning of the level, there will be explosion pits near the shore, some of which are filled with water. If you jump into each of them in a certain order, four statues with Beam Cannons will appear. Take the weapon for yourself and enjoy its power: like in Zombie mode, it kills most enemies with one shot and easily shoots off limbs.
ZAP!!! and snowman aliens (Ghosts)
While Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Extinction Mode may not have been as popular as Treyarch’s Zombie Mode, it still had a lot of fun. Well, a bunch of different secrets, of course.
On the Nightfall map, there is a small easter egg, to activate which you need to shoot at the sparkling transformers hanging on different poles. If you shoot them in the order in which they start to sparkle, the game will display the message “ZAP !!!”, and the killed aliens from that moment on will explode, turning into snow. Moreover, each of them will leave behind a snowman’s head, which will disappear after a few seconds. The Easter eggs will expire in about five minutes.
Hidden Electric Weapon (Black Ops)
In World At War, there was an easter egg with a Beam Cannon, and in the Black Ops campaign, through an easter egg, you can get another weapon from Zombie Mode – Electric Cannon. To do this, you need to fulfill simple conditions.
During the “Numbers” mission, shoot all the Nova-6 canisters at the beginning of the level. Before climbing the stairs, go back to the room where the tape recorder is on the table and press the interact button with it. Continue through the level as normal until you find the weapon storage hidden behind the refrigerator.
There, on the left side of the room, you will see another tape recorder, which you will also need to interact with. If everything is done correctly, the Electric Weapon will appear from the wall in a few seconds, and you will only have to take it for yourself.
Kill Yuri (Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 features a flashback scene that gives players a glimpse of important plot points in Modern Warfare through the eyes of Yuri, who assisted Makarov. An interesting turn came out, but only in the previous two games no one had ever seen Yuri.
However, this only applies to their original versions. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered, the developers at Raven Software have the foresight to add Yuri to the updated “Kill with One Shot” mission. Now, during the scripted scene, you can see how a dialogue occurs between Makarov and Yuri, and if you shoot at the latter, the game will give you an achievement and display the message: “Do not shoot at your own.”
Permanent Perks in Zombie Mode (Black Ops 2)
Perks are the most important attribute of any Zombie card. With Stamina Cocktail you can run longer, with Jagger Fanta you become more survivable, and this is only a small part of what Perks a la Cola have to offer.
Interestingly, there are several hidden perks in Black Ops 2 that are not subject to the 4 perk limit. The effect of these “permanent perks” ranges from faster bringing players to their senses to immunity to explosion damage. They can be unlocked by passing tests with rather strange conditions, and lost under equally unclear circumstances. Apparently, it was this unusual game mechanic that laid the foundation for the Gobble Gum and Elixirs mechanics from Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4, respectively.
Weeping Angels (Black Ops 3)
Of all the easter eggs Treyarch has hidden in their games, this one is perhaps the creepiest. We are talking about dummies from the Nuk3town map from Black Ops 3 – it turns out that they can be revived.
Activating this secret is relatively easy. All you have to do is shoot off the arms of every mannequin on the map, and then they will start chasing you like the weeping angels from Doctor Who. In other words, they will move, but only when no one is looking at them. You will constantly hear someone running after you, but as soon as you turn around, the mannequins will instantly freeze in terrible unnatural poses. With such Easter eggs, you begin to understand people who are afraid of mannequins …
Dance Party (Call Of Duty: Finest Hour)
There are a surprising number of Easter eggs in Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Hidden UFOs and exploding teddy bears are just a small part of what can be found in this game.
One of the most memorable secrets awaits you in the “Underground Passage” level. Near the level exit, in the underground tunnels, throw two grenades at the boarded up exit to your right. Running into the formed passage, you will hear strange music and see a group of soldiers who have decided to arrange a dance party. People know how to relax.
Computer in main menu (Black Ops)
Each game mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops is full of easter eggs and secrets. But not everyone knows about the existence of an interesting Easter egg that does not apply to any of these modes.
While in the main menu, you can control the hands of Mason strapped to the chair by pressing the shooting and aiming buttons. If you make a movement with both hands several times, Mason will be free and will be able to walk around the room, and you will look around. There will be a computer at the back of the room, interacting with which you will find new plot details, concept art for the game, and even a secret map for the Zombie mode called Dead Ops Arcade.
Eight-bit games from Activision (Black Ops 2)
.
Nuketown is one of the most famous and popular maps in the history of Call of Duty, thanks to its interesting setting and narrow passages. Treyarch has re-released it many times, and almost every new version of the map has some kind of easter egg.
At Nuketown 2025 from Black Ops 2, you can find one of the most unusual Easter eggs in the history of the franchise. All you need to do is shoot off the heads of all the dummies on the map, after which the Activision logo will appear on the monitor in the center of the map. By interacting with him, you will be able to enjoy Pitfall, River Raid, Kaboom and HERO in all their eight-bit glory.
Soul sign in St. Petrograd (Modern Warfare 2019)
Infinity Ward’s relaunch of the Modern Warfare series proved to be a successful step in the right direction for the franchise. The game not only returned to a more familiar and mundane manner of combat with standard infantry methods, but also brought with it many interesting secrets, which made fans very happy.
The most, in our opinion, the most pleasant secret in Modern Warfare for a fan is the usual information plate of a tram station. You can find it on the map of St. petrograd. If you take a closer look at the texture of the plate, it turns out that meaningful text is written on it in broken Russian, though not exactly about trams.
The artist who filled the tablet with text left an honest confession in it that he wrote all sorts of rubbish, so long as the tablet looked authentic. He also expressed relief that the letters on the texture are not very legible, and therefore few people will see that his Russian language leaves much to be desired. However, he thanks everyone who stopped by and paid attention to his creation. “Although we will never meet, it gives me joy to know that you are looking at my work,” the artist writes.
