In the remaster The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Roach’s movement behavior has been reworked, but CD Projekt RED is not going to deprive players of the usual chaos. Changes can be disabled in the settings.
Geralt’s horse has been one of the game’s main sources of unintentional humor since its release in 2015. Over ten years, fans have collected an impressive collection of videos where Roach gets stuck inside rocks, appears on the roofs of houses and behaves as absurdly as possible.
In an interview for the show Fall Damage Fool’s Theory design director Carolina Kuzya and CD Projekt RED lead level designer Miles Tost said that the “slightly bugged” horse could be left in its original form.
Carolina Kuzya, design director at Fool’s Theory:
Speaking of Roach and her antics, well, why fix something people like, right?
Miles Tost, Lead Level Designer at CD Projekt RED:
I don’t know about any Roach bugs. I think she’s perfect.

After the joke, Toast confirmed that the remaster will have a switch between two horse behavior options. The first developer called it “classic Roach”, the second – an updated version for the remaster.
Miles Tost, Lead Level Designer at CD Projekt RED:
One of the cool things about the remaster update is that we’ve worked on the Roach’s movement behavior. And in this regard, players may be upset, but hear me out. We’ve thought of everything. This can be disabled. So if you prefer the classic Roach, the one you are used to knowing, you are welcome.
In addition to technical changes, the remaster will become the basis for the third addition, Songs of the Past, which will send Geralt to a completely new region. Along with it will come various improvements to the usability of the game.
The white-haired witcher will finally receive a chain weapon, allowing him to perform brutal grabs. In terms of entertainment, the techniques are reminiscent of something from Mortal Kombat.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be released on September 29, 2026 and will be a free update for owners of the game on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Songs of the Past expansion is planned for 2027.
