More recently, the developers of the newly minted MMORPG Throne and Liberty shared information about the game with various Korean publications such as inven and thisisgame. This article is a compilation of information from them and contains interesting details such as combat system details, weather effects, monetization system, and more.

Throne and Liberty is rooted in Lineage and therefore the first element that the developers have focused on is the siege. They were popular among franchise players and users saw them as the most interesting and important element of the gameplay. Fortress assaults give the player an incentive to become stronger and pump their character, and not just develop for the sake of development.

Mass skirmishes of players promise to be diverse due to the dynamically changing battlefield, weather conditions and random events, and they will also be more realistic and spectacular. From Lineage, the new TL partially inherited the hiding of the characteristics of the enemy character – you can only find out how much the enemy is stronger than you by starting a battle with him. The developers consider the co-op and guild system to be the core gameplay of TL.

PvE is an important element, especially at the start, but it will not be the core of the game. At the beginning of the journey, the storyline and side quests will help to explore the world and master the game mechanics, but later on the player will be able to switch completely to the “user-controlled story”. However, this does not mean that the plot and quests are only educational in nature and have not been worked out – they receive a lot of attention. The global storyline permeates the entire game world, even in a seemingly simple side quest you can see echoes of the plot. The game will show the player staged 3D cutscenes, story dungeons, dialogues and play areas with different characters.

The combat system, when compared to past NCSOFT games, is closer to Blade & Soul than Lineage. But at the same time, the developers took care of the absence of too complex mechanics. The game in a party depends more on the tactical actions of the players or the guild and, perhaps, loses its dynamism compared to PvP one on one, where you need to quickly decide when to attack, counterattack or just run away. The fight adheres to the classic target system (전투는 타게팅 방식이다).

You can only play as humans, but it is possible to transform into other creatures – flying, running, swimming animals or siege golems. Transformation is needed not only to move around the world, but also to solve puzzles and get some game information. For example, a bird can soar and fly over a high wall, and the wind can both prevent it from doing so and help.

Weather skills include wind control, solar eclipses, climate change. The wind can be changed so that the enemy archers receive a penalty to the attack range, and the allies, on the contrary, increase it. Rain is able to fill a moat that was difficult to cross in order to then make it possible to swim across. It is even possible to open a passage to the dungeon by correctly applying the weather skill in the right place.

At night, new monsters appear in the world, and there is no penalty for killing other players. Creatures also react to the weather, for example, some become stronger in the rain. The drop from the monsters also depends on the weather conditions – something falls only in the rain, something at night, and some things on a rainy night with a strong wind.

Weather spells will be unique and extremely rare. Only a few players on the server will have them – guilds will have to fight to get these skills, but how exactly is still unknown… At the same time, the developers note that these are not ultimate abilities and the benefits are insignificant.

The strength of a character is made up of the level, distribution of stats, skills, things on the character, weather, environment, transformations, and so on. None of these, taken on their own, are capable of making an overly superior character.

The game will not have the classic class system and the “holy trinity” system: tank, dp, healer. Any character can carry 2 weapons, which will be upgraded as they are used. The characteristics of the hero are allowed to be distributed as you like – the swordsman is able to invest all the points in strength, and maybe in the strength of skills. The player is free to choose which class he wants to play now and how ready his character is for this – you can change the style at any time.

Guilds will be able to prevent other players from killing bosses in the world, but the game is designed to make it harder for a single guild to take control of farming.

The developers assure that the game does not have any features that can be obtained only for donation. Microtransactions will make life easier for players who cannot spend a lot of time playing the game. For example, to reduce the gap from those who understand the game and spend a lot of time there. The weather skills mentioned above can only be obtained through in-game methods.

The game will be released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox (there is no information about the past generation of these consoles). The game will be possible to launch the game through Purple – a service from NCSOFT, for remote control from a mobile phone of a running game on a PC. Also, this launch method includes social elements – a game chat. news and voice communication.

There will be no crossplay – there may be problems with both the technical part and the interaction of the players, but the content will not differ, although patches may be lagging behind. There is a possibility that the console versions will be delayed due to the timing of the review of the game by platform holders.

At the start, we will get about one-twentieth of the total world map, and the rest will open as the game develops. The world does not seem very big, but this is because the developers have placed most of the activities in a complex and the dungeons are physically, for real, underground.

NCSOFT hopes that the game will become a new symbol of the Korean gaming industry, as Lineage once became. The developers will continue to share details on the game, and plan to announce the exact release dates in the summer.
