Life in Night City is as vibrant and action-packed as it is dangerous, and this is especially true in the Dog Town area of the recent Phantom Liberty expansion. Therefore, before you go there, you need to be properly armed.
Since you can immerse yourself in the story of Phantom Freedom without starting the main story campaign, the developers made sure that you can get your hands on one of the coolest guns in the game at the beginning of the DLC. However, to get it, you need to make one very specific choice.
All of the side quests in Hound City have completely different consequences depending on your decisions, so you can easily miss out on some valuable loot by simply taking a different route. If you want to get your hands on an extremely deadly assault rifle right away that will be your trusted ally in firefights right up to the end of the expansion, here’s how to do it.
How to get the Carmen rifle in Phantom Liberty
You’ll first need to complete an initial series of quests, starting with Dog Eat Dog, all the way until you’re free to explore Dog Town. Once you leave the hideout and the main quest “Lucretia, My Reflection” begins, you will have the opportunity to get the best weapon in the DLC, and perhaps in the entire game.
Go north of the hideout to the tall tower in the center of Dog Town, where you will come across a side quest. In the camp of the local group “Barghest” (southwest of the pyramid) there will be two NPCs in uniform – Paco and Babs.
After talking with them, a new task will become available to you – “The Bad Trouble Begins.”
You will be offered the “Deep Dive” inhaler, the use of which will cause hallucinations in the main character, illustrating Paco’s stories on behalf of Kurt Hansen, the leader of their group.
After participating in a series of not very difficult fights and shootouts as Hansen and returning to reality, you will see three dialogue options, each of which leads to a completely different ending to the story:
- Frame Yuri.
- Invite Paco and Babs to escape.
- Ask friends for help.
Basically, you can choose any option except the first one. The main thing is that Paco and Babs remain alive. The easiest way is to help them escape from Dog City. Follow them to a car parked nearby and help them get to the Grand Imperial Mall.
After a couple of days, Paco will send you a message. Agree to meet him at the Afterlife bar in Watson. As a token of gratitude for your help, he will give you his personal modified version of the standard AR Barghest rifle, which he affectionately calls “Carmen”.
Characteristics of “Carmen”
This powerful weapon will be useful for almost any build – it has standard ammunition, but it also deals very serious damage. Add a silencer and it can be used even while stealthing.
- Level 4+ | Cult
- Attack Speed: 12.50
- Damage: 22.74
- Reload speed: 1.65
- Effective range: 28.75
- Ease of use: 7.04
- 100% damage ratio for headshots
- 50% armor penetration
- Increases the chance of critical hits on limbs. It becomes easier to use, increases damage and allows you to cause heavy bleeding in enemies when running, jumping and sliding.
While this rifle doesn’t look as impressive as other iconic weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, it will come in handy in any firefight. You will quickly kill a crowd of ordinary enemies with headshots and inflict great damage on more tenacious armored opponents, and at the same time you will not lose in speed and maneuverability. The Carmen is definitely not the prettiest weapon in the game, but it easily makes up for it with its killing power and versatility.
