Deep customization and new combat mechanics - Bandai Namco presented a review trailer for Code Vein II

Bandai Namco has published a nine-minute overview trailer for the third-person soulslick action game Code Vein II, revealing key gameplay features and technical innovations of the sequel. The focus was on the redesigned combat system, which retained the main features of the first part, but was significantly expanded due to the Formae mechanics. These abilities are divided into offensive, defensive and summoning abilities, allowing players to modify attacks, perform counterattacks, or use unique weapons for devastating attacks. The resource for activating these skills is still ichor, which is obtained in battle using enhanced draining attacks.

An important innovation was Prisons – special artifacts attached to the hero’s back. They directly affect the character’s characteristics and change the mechanics of ichor replenishment, providing tactical advantages depending on the type of enemy. The arsenal of weapons has also been replenished with new types, such as dual and runic blades. The Blood Code system has evolved, offering players even more freedom to customize their builds. Special boosters can now unlock unique traits and attributes that are tied to specific gear, allowing for highly specialized playstyles.

The developers paid special attention to interaction with partners and the survival system. You can return a fallen ally to duty by sacrificing some of your health, but after this your partner loses combat effectiveness for some time. Exploration of the post-apocalyptic world will cover many different locations, including the flooded ruins of the metropolis, the Tainted Cleft and Magmell Island. The narrative promises to be deep and dark, focusing on the fate of the last survivors and immortal revenants trying to prevent the final collapse of civilization.

Code Vein II will be released on January 30, 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and a week before that, on January 23, a demo version of the character editor will become available.
