Recent leaks from current and former Bungie employees reveal new details about the development of Destiny Rising, a mobile game set in the Destiny universe that the studio is working on with Chinese company NetEase. According to sources such as SkillUp and Game Post, the project remains in production despite Bungie’s internal difficulties.
It is reported that Destiny Rising will be a prequel to the first part of Destiny and is being developed almost entirely by the NetEase team, which previously released Diablo Immortal for Blizzard. Bungie contributed minimally, mostly related to the narrative. The gameplay of the project should be reminiscent of Destiny, but with a focus on the events of an earlier era of the universe and characters, which may include familiar heroes such as Zavala, Ikora and Shaxx. Missions, raids and even raids are expected, but due to the nature of mobile gaming, it remains unclear exactly how long gaming sessions will be implemented.
Destiny Rising will be free to play and monetized through in-game purchases. There are no approximate release dates yet.
