Square Enix has no plans to transfer the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV to the Free-to-Play model at the moment. About it informed game director Naoki Yoshida in a conversation with the foreign portal Eurogamer. Instead of making the project completely free, the developers are going to further expand the trial version, as they did before.
Recall that with the release of the Dawntrail expansion, which will take place in the summer of 2024, players of the trial version of Final Fantasy XIV will be able to level up to level 70, as well as go through the main storyline until the end of the second Stormblood expansion.
“I believe the free trial will expand further, but at the moment we have no plans to make the client itself free,” Yoshida said. “Because a huge amount of time and money has been spent on expansions, their revenue is still very important in order to continue to release expansions of this magnitude. We would like to continuously strive for the best from a business standpoint as well, to keep making a lot of content to enjoy.”
Naoki Yoshida also stated that the team has no plans to develop a new game, and all efforts are focused on supporting Final Fantasy XIV.
