Borderlands is an open world first person shooter RPG game set in 2009. It is the first game in the Borderlands series developed by Gearbox Software and released by 2K Games for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Shield Android TV.

The story of the game centers on a group of four “Vault Hunters” who travel to the distant planet Pandora to hunt down an alien vault, rumored to contain advanced alien technology, fight local wildlife and gangster populations, but ultimately try to stop the chapter the army of a private corporation from reaching the vault first.

The game has the ability to explore the game world as well as complete both main missions and side quests in both solo and interactive gameplay, with the latter providing additional opportunities for duels and competitive PVP matches in specific areas.

Gameplay features include access to different types of weapons and shields that vary in type and stats, weapons with special elemental functions, each playable character with distinctive class types and unique combat abilities, upgradeable skills, and the use of vehicles for two people. The game itself was drawn in cartoon graphics to provide more details on weapons and environments, and was inspired by various RPGs of the time, such as Ultima and Diablo.

At the beginning of the game, players choose one of four characters, each with a unique special skill and skills of working with a certain weapon.
