Fallout: New Vegas is a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game. It is a spin-off of the Fallout series, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic open world environment spanning a region consisting of parts of Nevada, California and Arizona.

It is set in a world that has diverged from an alternate timeline thanks to atomic age technology. It ultimately led to its devastation by a nuclear apocalypse in 2077 in an event called the “Great War”. This war was caused by a major international conflict between the United States and China over natural resources. The main story of New Vegas takes place in 2281, four years after the events of the third part. This is not a direct sequel, but it marked the return of a number of elements found in the second episode, developed by Black Isle Studios.

Players take control of a character known as the Courier. While transporting a package across the Mojave Desert to the city of New Vegas, a courier is ambushed, loses his package, is shot in the head and goes to his death. After surviving, the Courier begins a journey to find his would-be killer and recover the package, making friends and enemies among the various factions, and ultimately becoming embroiled in a conflict that will determine who will control New Vegas and the Mojave Wasteland.

The episode received positive reviews, with critics praising the game’s writing, quests, and improved gameplay, while also drawing criticism for glitches and launch errors. The project was a commercial success. In total, over 5 million copies were released and it is estimated that it sold around 12 million copies worldwide. The game also won the Golden Joystick award for RPG of the Year in 2011.
