The world of Verra is a dynamic and ever-changing landscape full of wonder, adventure and danger. One of the many mechanics in the MMORPG Ashes of Creation that achieves this adaptability is events. It is one of the main ways to introduce players to content, focusing on creating an interactive world that keeps players on their toes while changing the gameplay in an interesting and unique way.
Ashes of Creation players will experience events throughout their time in Verra, from early playthrough to high-level dungeons and raids. It’s worth noting that Ashes of Creation is still under development, so all design decisions are subject to change during alpha and beta testing.
How events work
When an event starts, players will be able to accept or decline it, similar to how they accept a quest. If desired, it can even become the main source for obtaining experience points, items and resources.
There can be many factors for the occurrence of an event – for example, an increase in the level of the stronghold, a change in climate or season, killing a certain number of NPCs, and much more. You never know when an event might start, so players need to be careful and stay on their toes!
There are many different types of events that can be triggered randomly and for specific reasons. Listed below are just a few of the possible events that players will encounter while adventuring in Verra!
Calendar events can be thought of as annual holiday events or other seasonal events. Some of these may be related to the seasons and how they affect strongholds in certain zones. Most often they will take place on a server-wide basis and provide unique content for a certain period of time.
Some events include attacks on the stronghold! For example, enemies can damage buildings and thereby disable them during the attack of the stronghold. Players on the defending side may have their own goal – to take up arms and work together to prevent an attack. If the stronghold attack is successful, the buildings may need to be repaired for use.
Monster Coin Events
During Monster Coin Events, players have the option to activate Monster Coins to transform into monsters and wreak havoc! These events can be triggered in a variety of ways, and in some cases they even reward cosmetic items.
Sudden Events are a prime example of how events force players to stay alert at all times! These small events keep the danger alive in Verra, creating moments that test the combat readiness of the players. In zones of influence with more active players, more sudden events can occur.
Events at points of interest
Points of Interest (POI) events tell the story of areas in the world as they level up as strongholds develop. Often, unfortunate events at points of interest can be harbingers of stronghold attacks that threaten nearby civilizations.
Narrative events help shape Verra’s story based on the choices players make during key questlines. While story arcs take time to develop on the server, narrative events show players that their choices play a big role in shaping the world around them, thanks to the individual actions of each.
The event system also creates a variety of PvP situations in the open world. From small skirmishes that escalate into sieges, to battles for capture points during the siege of a stronghold or castle, PvP objectives will always play a decisive role in determining the course of the battle.
Every action has a consequence, especially for Verra. Events are often one of the ways players can really get a feel for something that has had a significant impact on the world. Dramatic transformations, such as changing the weather or perhaps creating new goals, will encourage players to explore and adapt to change.
Unprepared adventurers should be on their guard, as events can happen at any time of the day, in any zone, at any moment! Some of them are limited to a small area, while others cover the entire server. Whether you encounter events in combat, seasonal holidays, or by chance, the developers hope you enjoy the ever-changing content and how it impacts the world.
