Nexon held a special broadcast during which it presented a roadmap for the development of the looter shooter The First Descendant. The developers promise not just to add new content, but to completely rethink the basic concept of the game, expanding combat modes, improving balance and radically reworking the farming cycle. The team has taken the community’s criticism into account and will focus on expanding on the best elements of the game and rebuilding the core gameplay to make it more fun.
First of all, two new activities will appear in the game:
- Breach Tracking — An extensive area for farming gold with random rotation of locations and missions. The mode is designed to reduce the feeling of monotony.
- Horde Mode — An endgame mode designed for groups of four. Players will have to face increasing waves of enemies, using resources obtained in battle to install turrets and buffs.
In February 2026, a new descendant of Dia will appear in the game, around which the plot of Episode 3 will be built. Plans for the first half of the year also include a major overhaul of the farming cycle, including the introduction of an operations management system and a task board. For beginners, the starting experience will be improved thanks to the Boost Path 2.0 progression. The challenging Void Intercept Battle mode will be transformed into a new type of end-game content.
The fourth season, scheduled for next summer, will focus on Karel’s character’s story and the climactic battle. The game will feature a new mega-dungeon to match the scale of the story. Missions with cooler combat scenarios and dramatic presentation are expected, surpassing the past Infiltration Operations and Void Vessels.
Season 4 will also see a complete overhaul of weapons. The current progression structure of research, adjustments, and augmentation cores has become cumbersome for players and will be replaced with a clearer system. Transcendent Tier weapons will be redesigned around farming content to provide a completely new weapon wielding experience.
Before the big changes, the studio will release an update in December that will add an improved version of Eugene, Super Eugene. The new Descendant will offer a hybrid playstyle that allows you to restore health while dealing damage or increase strength for helping your allies.
The update will also bring the new Forbidden Sanctuary dungeon, which is an experimental co-op boss facility, as well as a new enemy, the Abyss Colossus Grim Reaper, which is a mutated form of the Death Stalker that requires skill and strategy. In addition, balance changes will be made to characters and a number of weapons.
