Multiplayer military shooter Wardogs for 100 players released on Steam Early Access and became an instant hit. The title topped the platform’s global sales chart, and online instantly exceeded 300 thousand concurrent players. True, not all of them were able to get onto the battlefield.

The servers could not withstand the influx of applicants, and the queue to enter became so long that the developers from the Bulkhead studio temporarily turned off the servers completely to fix the problem. This was reported on the official account Wardogs in X.

We’re actively working to get as many of you into the game as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience. This is due to an issue that was not present in the previous beta.

Users received an error when trying to enter the game. In a separate video, Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer explained that the delays are partly due to restrictions from Valve.

Ideally, we would like to get infrastructure at the level of AAA projects, but this is not the case yet. We are in talks with Valve to sort this out. It is what it is. I wouldn’t recommend leaving the queue, it’s better to just stay in it.

The launch issues weren’t a surprise given the hype surrounding the title, but they were disappointing for players. Many were counting on a smooth start, since Bulkhead conducted several closed beta tests before the release. The studio itself seemed confident in the readiness of the server infrastructure – the last closed testing took place just last weekend, and the developers then directly invited players to “tear our servers to smithereens.”
