You can level up your hero in Genshin Impact by completing quests and killing enemies, but this is far from the only grind you have to go through. The user still needs to collect various items to increase the level and experience points, which ultimately contribute to the development of the character. And we have created a guide that will definitely help with this.
First, as mentioned in our beginner’s guide, character leveling is very different from adventuring rank. Some elements are pretty similar, however the latter should help push the story forward and provide more quests.
In any case, to increase the level of characters, you mainly need to kill enemies and complete various quests. Similarly, there are several types of items to level up: first of all, these are experience materials. Examples include:
- Traveler’s advice: +1000 experience points
- Traveler experience: +5000 experience points
- Hero’s Wit: +20000 experience points
The Hero’s Wit is a very valuable item. If you’re already quite familiar with in-game microtransactions, then you probably know that the Wayfarer’s Supply Bundle gives you 50 of these items. However, be aware that this set costs 980 Creation Crystals, the premium currency in Genshin Impact.
You can also get some Hero’s Wit materials if you unlock the Battle Pass (adventure rank 20). The Battle Pass has several ranks, and some of them grant “Hero’s Wit”.
In any case, you have to pay in gold for each level using these materials. Also, every new character you unlock in Genshin Impact starts at level 1, no matter how powerful they might be. So you’ll need 7 Hero’s Wit items to get newbies to level 20, which is a pretty big hurdle.
This is a really important aspect to keep in mind. Yes, it’s possible to experiment with different squad compositions, and we advise avoiding using wits and other materials on characters that won’t be useful in the long run (like Ember). If you are already determined to spend items on heroes, then invest in those who will become a support throughout the journey (for example, Venti, Fischl, Dilyuk and Genie).
Ascension and Talents
Once a character reaches level 20, you must complete their ascension. This will require several materials collected during the passage. However, some of them can be easily bought in a gift shop (which we will discuss below). After completing the first ascent, you will unlock the character’s talent. In fact, this is an improvement of one of the existing skills.
Completing Ascension also raises a character’s level cap to 40. This requires hundreds of thousands of experience – or 29 Hero’s Wits and 116,000 gold if you want to make the process easier. You will then need materials for another Ascension/Talent and level cap.
A souvenir shop can be found in the main centers (such as Mondstadt and Li Yue harbor). To do this, you just need to contact the NPC with the diamond icon. The gift shop sells several materials for leveling up the Ascension, as well as pumping weapons / crafting.
Note: The currency accepted by the shop in Mondstadt is Anemo Sigils. As for the shop in the harbor of Li Yue, geosigils are used there. Sigils can be found by exploring the respective areas. They drop randomly from treasure chests, or by completing challenges, leveling up the Statue of Seven, and so on.
