All because of the pandemic
The company Google, among other things, stands out for the fact that for a not so long period of its existence, it “buried” an incredible number of projects. In total, the “Google graveyard” now has more than 200 projects, of which 188 are software products.
And soon another one may go to rest. Rumors indicate that the search giant may ditch the Duo app in favor of Meet, as the coexistence of these products doesn’t make sense. Moreover, the piquancy of the situation is added by the fact that if it were not for the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting popularity of various collective video communication services, the Meet service probably would not have received such an impetus in development and would not threaten the existence of Duo.
The fact that Google has been actively promoting Duo as the default Android app lately is a clear indication that the company had no plans to ditch the program until recently. The source says the decision was made by a new messaging executive and came as a surprise to the Duo team.
However, this information is not yet confirmed.
