Fans GTA 6 found a real prototype of one of the game locations – a nudist resort in Florida, and turned the establishment’s page on Google in the field for role-playing games based on the Rockstar Games title. The wave of fake reviews began after leaked gameplay videos appeared in August, where the protagonist named Jason goes on a shooting spree in an area very similar to the real Cypress Cove Nudist Resort. Now business owners are forced to fight off the flow of fictitious reviews and accuse some of the authors of attempting to extort.
The leak in question was published by a user with the nickname Cyberleek on August 24. The footage shows a location with a bar, a blue pool and many naked NPCs – a place that the developers, apparently, actually copied from a real resort. Before the events in the video turn into a brutal shootout, the protagonist Jason behaves more like a random voyeur, looking at the vacationers through binoculars, which in itself is not the most pleasant scenario for a place where people come to relax without clothes.
Following the leak, reviews written in the style of game characters began appearing on Cypress Cove’s Google page. The authors mentioned “Jason Duvall”, “Lucia”, binoculars, a swimming pool and weapons – details that directly refer to the plot GTA 6. One of the reviews that the resort deliberately left on the page as evidence read:
We were having a great time until a man pulled out binoculars.
The establishment perceived such posts not as a joke, but as a coordinated campaign. According to the owners of Cypress Cove, some of the authors of the fake reviews later demanded money to remove or change these posts. The resort called the incident a “spam review or extortion” and issued a lengthy statement:
For those interested in the sudden increase in references to “Jason Duvall”, “Lucia”, binoculars, a swimming pool, weapons and other suspiciously similar details – these are references to Grand Theft Auto 6. Yes. To a video game.
The statement goes on to say that such reviews appear to be part of a coordinated series of fictitious posts using references to GTA 6 and linking them to a real business, followed by a request for payment to change or delete these reviews.
The resort owners said they do not intend to give in to the threats:
-
the establishment will not pay or negotiate with review authors;
-
all cases of extortion are documented;
-
information has been transferred to the appropriate authorities.
Separately, the statement clarifies with obvious irony that, with all due respect to devotion to the plot Grand Theft AutoCypress Cove is located in Florida, not the fictional state of Leonidas where the game takes place. The message ends with the phrase that the resort’s marketing budget does not include an expense item for “Internet buyouts.”
