Guide Baldurs Gate 3 how to create healing potions Guide Baldur's Gate 3 - how to create healing potions

Save money and save lives with this simple recipe for crafting healing potions in Baldur’s Gate 3.

As in life, health in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 comes at a cost. If you want to fully heal your party between battles and restore your spell charges, you will need to return to your camp for a long rest, which will cost you 40 camp supplies. But if you want to stock up on consumable potions to use in combat, you can craft them yourself.

We have compiled a guide that will teach you how to create useful items and master the art of alchemy. The required materials and ingredients are often found, and you can easily collect enough just by traveling the world. The ingredients for making a healing potion are listed in the recipe that can be found in the Extinct Village, but if you are unlucky enough to stumble upon it, we have detailed the entire procedure for creating this miraculous medicine below.

Healing Potion Making Guide

Considering that Baldur’s Gate 3’s fights can be quite challenging from the start, even on a low difficulty level, a Healing Potion is one of the most important items in your arsenal in the early stages of the game. If you don’t want to constantly replay the same battles or spend money on resurrecting your teammates (we have a separate guide about this), you will need a constant supply of healing potions that you can not only buy, but also create, and the latter method is expectedly more profitable .

In the first act, potions of healing can be bought from merchants in the Emerald Grove and the goblin camp. That’s just depending on the choice of the side in the conflict between goblins and druids, you may lose access to one of the merchants. In the druid grove, you will certainly meet the halfling Arron, who will offer you his services, and in the goblin camp, Grath is responsible for this.

The potions are not cheap (usually around 25 coins for easy and 50 for high) and don’t heal as much as you would like, but even a little healing can make a huge difference in battles in Baldur’s Gate 3. Healing potions restore an average of 4 to 10 HP and are used as a bonus action, so you can attack, move, and heal in one turn if you wish.

Scrolls of Revival Trick: You can also get healing potions from the Withered One through the “Hire Mercenary” option in the dialogue. For only 100 gold, you will not only receive reinforcements, but also two potions and one scroll of resurrection in each mercenary’s inventory.

In the extinct village, enter the doctor’s house. It’s a big house with a counter full of ingredients. On the table there is a plate and a sheet with the recipe we need.

Open the “Alchemy” tab and select “Potion of Healing” in the appropriate section. If you have mushrooms called Thieves’ Treat in your inventory, the recipe will automatically unlock.

For crafting, you will need the following ingredients:

  • x1 Thieves’ Treat Salt (requires 3 mushrooms)
  • x1 Suspension

As you already understood, the most important ingredient of the potion is the Thieves’ Treat. This fungus grows literally everywhere, plus it can be expected to be found when searching alchemy laboratories or the corpses of wizards. In the first act, we would recommend looking for them in the south of the map – there are a lot of them near the swamps south of the Extinct Village.

To craft, open the inventory menu and go to the Alchemy tab. With the resources selected, click the “Extract All Ingredients” button in the lower left corner of the menu. This turns raw materials you find in the environment, often various types of herbs or mushrooms, into ingredients. These are the materials that should be extracted first. Usually, 3 materials are required to create one ingredient.
