Horizon Forbidden West: how to get Warmark Warpaint from God of War

Sony games traditionally contain references to other projects of this company, and Horizon Forbidden West is no exception. Among other easter eggs (we’ll talk about them later), it contains a funny reference to one of the PlayStation exclusives – the 2018 game God of War. We are talking about war paint War Sign, with which Aloy becomes like Kratos.

Getting the War Sign in Forbidden West is relatively easy, but it still takes some work: the coloring is unlocked by finding three secret totems reminiscent of characters from God of War, and these totems are hidden in different parts of the game world. You will need to run around the neighborhood, but fortunately, the order of finding the totems does not matter. Here’s where to look for them.

War totem location

For the first totem, go to the northwestern part of the map, see the screenshot above. Each totem is tied to a specific God of War reference located nearby, so if you can’t find it (the totems are quite small), look for the reference, it’s more noticeable. Having found the reference, scan it and you will see the path to the totem.

An ax stuck in a tree will point you to the totem of War. Following the trail, you will eventually come to a decrepit snow-covered house, very similar to the house of Kratos in God of War. Facing him, go to the left side, and there you will find a wooden figurine of Kratos himself, lying in the snow. Aloy will comment on the find, and you just have to pick it up and go look for the rest, if you haven’t found them yet.

Location of the Totem of Youth

The next totem is located far to the west of the map, on an island on the left bank of the bay. After exploring the beach on the west side, you will find a tree with arrows sticking out of it. The arrows look unusual – they don’t look like the ones that Aloy and everyone else use, but they are very similar to the arrows of Atreus from God of War.

Scan the find, and the path will lead you straight to the Totem of Youth – the statuette of Atreus, which will stand on the metal structure of the ruined building located in the northwestern part of the island.

The last totem lurks in the southeast corner of the map. First, find the defeated Swallow with a hammer sticking out of its head. Scan it and find your way to the last totem – Brock and Etri figurines from God of War, hidden under a small rock structure.

Obtaining the Marks of War

Collecting all three totems will automatically unlock the War Sign coloring page. Alas, you won’t be able to try it on right away – first you have to get to the artist, who will put a new drawing on Aloy’s face for 10 metal fragments.
