Rumors surrounding the new actor playing James Bond continue to gain momentum. After Gary Oldman announced that an actor had already been found for the iconic role of Agent 007, the screenwriter of the future film, Steven Knight preferred laugh off direct questions from journalists on this topic.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program on Tuesday morning, Knight was asked whether the casting decision had been made after Oldman publicly supported his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden.

I can’t talk about this topic. Although I would really like to.

BBC presenter Anna Foster continued to press for an answer.

– You probably know who it is when you write the script. Does this somehow affect the process?

“It does make life a little easier when you know exactly who the person is, but you have to write the character, not the actor.

– So, they told you at the very beginning, before you started working on the script, or they told you already during the work?

– I’ll refer you to my previous answer.

The screenwriter further explained his position on the franchise:

Bond is a separate universe, a separate franchise. It has its own rules. Of course you have to move the story forward, but I like where it’s at.

I like that it’s British. I like that it’s not DC or Marvel… So I feel a sense of responsibility to the source material.

Meanwhile, bookmakers have sharply dropped their prices on Jack Lowden – he is now considered the favorite to play the new Bond. Earlier in the summer, Deadline reported that auditions for the role of James Bond took place in August. According to the publication, producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, as well as director Denis Villeneuve personally informed the shortlisted actors about the results of the selection.

It is expected that the choice will be announced before the end of the year – perhaps even in September.
