Japanese player under the nickname ピピ (pipi_rossa) achieved simultaneous operation of DLSS 5 and the ENB graphics mod in Fallout 4. Previously, these technologies conflicted with each other, since both interfere with the post-processing of the frame. The solution turned out to be simpler than expected.

The author of the experiment explained that it is enough to select the DLAA mode in the Upscaling mod. DLAA works as anti-aliasing without scaling, that is, the frame is processed in native resolution, and the neural network only deals with eliminating stairs at the edges. It was this mode that allowed ENB and DLSS 5 to coexist in one frame.

The first attempts did not go smoothly. According to the player, the image flickered until he installed the latest version of RenoDX from the project’s Discord community. RenoDX intercepts graphics API calls and adds HDR processing to games that don’t natively support it.

The payment for the picture turned out to be significant. The player noted that the connection puts a lot of stress on the system, and he doubts whether it is worth keeping it turned on all the time. DLAA is by definition heavier than regular DLSS, because there is no benefit from rendering at a lower resolution.

The screenshots caused distrust among some viewers who did not believe the declared 120 frames per second with these settings. In response, ピピ recorded a video of the gameplay, although the frame counter was not captured. According to him, the frequency remained at 120 all the time thanks to a separate build of the Upscaling Custom mod made for him by the community.

The published footage shows Preston Garvey and Sturges from the Sanctuary Hills settlement. The player noted that the characters look extremely realistic even without installing mods to replace facial textures. Other images included an abandoned gas station near Sanctuary, the destroyed streets of Boston, and a clawed death attacking raiders in Concord.

Not all viewers appreciated the result. One commentator wrote that the picture looks like it was generated by a neural network, adding that technically it is. Another user said that DLSS 5 in his case completely replaces ENB, and to change the contrast, a weather mod is enough, which corrects most of the lighting problems.
