Mass Effect Andromeda – Gameplay Basics: Vitality Andromeda

Andromeda Viability is a mechanic that is closely related to the number of cryopods that can be opened.

Andromeda Vitality, defined by Andromeda Viability Points (AVPs), represents the process of colonization of the Andromeda galaxy. Basically, it shows how well you are doing as a Pathfinder. Andromeda’s viability level can be checked, for example, in the pause menu – you just need to look in the upper right corner of the screen.

This indication can be considered as a separate experience panel, which is not related to the main character, but to the development of the Nexus station. Each Andromeda vitality level you earn grants you additional Cryopod Points, allowing you to unlock one of the 20 Cryopods available at the Nexus Station. Opening each of them gives the player different benefits – they can offer, for example, additional resources, crafting materials, research points, increase the character’s item limit, or even unlock additional items available from vendors.

Andromeda’s vitality can be developed to level 20 (unlocking 20 pods) and can be leveled up by doing the following:

  • Completing quests. Most of the main and side quests available in the game will reward you with varying amounts of Andromeda’s Vitality Points. Obviously, more difficult and longer quests will give more than simple and short ones.

  • Setting up forward stations. Each of these will give you 4 Andromeda Vitality points, in addition to other benefits such as being able to change your equipment, restore life support, and travel fast.

  • Create an outpost on the planet. This requires 40% planet vitality (more on that in the Planet Vitality chapter), although in turn this will give you hundreds of Andromeda vitality points.

  • Exploring and activating the Vault. The reward is even greater than with outposts – activating the Sanctuary will fill the entire bar of Andromeda’s viability in one go.

  • Victory over residual architects. There are four of them, one on each major planet. Defeating them will give you a huge experience boost as well as a lot of Andromeda’s vitality points. Tips for dealing with these powerful enemies can be found in the individual chapters of this guide.

  • Destruction of enemy objects on the planet.

Increasing Andromeda’s vitality isn’t critical to completing the game, but if you do that and unlock some cryopods, it will make the game a lot easier. This is worth doing, especially considering the fact that in most cases it is combined with the accumulation of “regular” experience points.
