Chris Sorell, Game Director, has previously only worked on 2D games like the adorable James Pond series. When development on MediEvil began in late 1995, the PlayStation was only available in the UK for a few weeks. Developers solved new tasks for them. “It was a huge challenge,” Sorrell recalled in a later interview with Retro Gamer. “None of us had worked with 3D games before, so it was new for us.” The camera’s shortcomings did not go unnoticed by critics when MediEvil was released in 1998. In its review, Next Generation magazine noted that the camera “doesn’t keep up” and that the sense of the player’s position is sometimes “confusing”.

• Despite its technical shortcomings, the original MediEvil was a commercial success. Mostly, it was due to his quirky humor. The protagonist of the game is an unlucky skeleton named Sir Daniel Fortescue, who explores the creepy world of underground zombies and monsters.
