Microsoft has been testing the Xbox Disc-to-Digital program since August 31, which allows owners of physical copies of games to receive their digital versions in the console library. The idea is simple: insert the disc and get the game in digital form without the need to store physical media. However it turned outthat not all publishers supported the initiative.
Users discovered that at least Square Enix was not participating in the program. When trying to digitize discs with games from these companies, the console displays the message “Digital license unavailable,” after which it clarifies that the specific title is not participating in the digital licensing program.
Representatives from Square have not yet commented on the absence of their games from the list of supported Xbox Disc-to-Digital, but the games of the French publisher, a few hours after the first mentions, unexpectedly appeared in the service. It is possible that some publishers decided to skip the test stage and will join the program later, after its full launch.
Apart from Square Enix, SEGA and Bandai Namco are not on the list.
Microsoft, meanwhile, promises to gradually expand the list of supported games. According to the company, in the future, Xbox Disc-to-Digital should cover almost the entire catalog of games for the console, including titles from third-party publishers.
For now, the program is at the testing stage, and its final list of partners may change before the official release.
