At The Game Awards 2024, an MMO game about cats and people called Catly was announced. It can easily be called the strangest and most incomprehensible project along with the untitled game from GenDesign. Players will find an open world with single and multiplayer activities, and the entire emphasis is on caring for cats and “creating a world” for them. It is also noted that each cat in the game will be unique, and players will have “endless possibilities for customization using accessories and environments.”
The project should launch in 2025 on PC (Steam) and Nintedo Switch, and on Apple Watch A special companion application is available.
The game’s description on Steam reads:
“A magical dream awaits you in which people and cats get along like never before. Catch the most beautiful memories, look at history through the eyes of people and cats – what could be better? Play pranks and run around in amazing landscapes. Decorate, make it cozy, control robots and take care of cats. Laugh, chat, dress up, hug! This story with incredibly beautiful cats is a celebration of the soul and the name day of the heart.”
And the first trailer is more reminiscent of a cartoon about the life of cats and cats in a fairy-tale world:
The official website states that the composer is Akira Senju, a four-time winner of the Japanese Academy Award, who has more than forty works in various TV series, films and anime (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). His quote praising the game can be found on the Steam page:
“A game as beautiful as Catly needs beautiful melodies. It’s an incredible pleasure for me to write soulful music for Catly – and for all cat lovers.”
This quote comes right after the words of Thomas Wu, former creative director of the League of Legends franchise, producer of the Arcane series, and 2022 Emmy Award winner:
“No one has ever put so much soul into cats. A fun and truly beautiful MMO with cats is the game we’ve been missing.”
The developers of the game are SuperAuthenti Co. Limited, about which there is practically no information, except that it is from Hong Kong. A reporter from digitaltrends.com managed to find the page of Kevin Yeung, co-founder of SuperAuthenti, and one of the published photos showed how Catly was shown eight months ago to Shuhei Yoshida, who is the head of the PlayStation Indies division. Perhaps at that time the issue of releasing the game on PlayStation 5 was discussed, but there are no details about this.
At this point, all known information about the game ends. Although it can be separately noted that some users note the use of neural networks to create images. And based on this, they consider the game to be a fake and a scam. It’s just unclear who they are trying to get rid of and how.
