XLGames announced that it has decided to close the MMORPG ArcheAge servers in South Korea. This event will happen on March 6, 2025. Starting today, registration of new users and accepting payments has been stopped, and the official website will be closed on April 4, 2025.
The developers thanked all players for their support at all stages of the game. The main reason for the closure is the classic “inability to provide players with quality service.” This usually indicates a lack of funding and the project is unprofitable.
Let us recall that in July 2023, the Korean publication MTN published an insider about plans for the gradual closure of regional versions of the game. There was only one reason – the game was unprofitable and the company’s difficult financial situation, which required restructuring. Over the past year, the game has been shut down in China, Japan, Europe and North America. And just a month and a half ago, the game’s support team was reduced to 30 people.
Following this news, Astrum Entertainment, the publisher of ArcheAge in Russia, announced that it would continue to develop the game:
“…Astrum Entertainment continues publishing the game ArcheAge in Russia! Closing servers in South Korea will not affect access to ArcheAge for Russian-speaking players. We continue to support and develop the project.”
However, how long and fully the game will be supported is not specified.
