There is a new precedent in South Korea, this time using an item duplication exploit. The MMORPG player Aika Online took advantage of the vulnerability and copied things worth 17 million euros, but the bug was discovered, and the violator was sentenced to prison.

The player was copying the item during server maintenance and did so from December 2017 to May 2019. In total, he managed to get 2630 copies, which were subsequently sold. According to prosecutors, the damage caused by this duplication amounted to 23 billion won (equivalent to 17 million euros). Before the hearing, the accused was also reportedly offered compensation in the amount of 750,000 euros, but no pre-trial settlement was reached.

As a result, the fan was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, as well as 3 years of probation and 80 hours of community service. As for the consequences of his actions, according to the developers, 96% of the copied elements have already been removed and there should be no more economic problems in the MMORPG.
