Netflix has shut down its Southern California gaming studio known as Team Blue. It’s one of several internal divisions the company has created in recent years as part of its expansion into the video game industry. According to sources Game Filethe studio was closed in October 2024.
Team Blue stood out from other Netflix projects because of its ambition. The team planned to create a large-budget, multi-platform AAA game, thereby moving away from the initial focus on mobile projects.
In preparation for these plans, the studio has made high-profile personnel appointments. At the end of 2022, Chacko Sonny, a former executive producer of Overwatch, joined Netflix, and in the spring of 2023, Joseph Staten, who previously worked on Halo. The team was also joined by Rafael Gracetti, art director of Santa Monica studio and creator of the visual style of God of War. However, despite these efforts, the studio was closed and all key employees left the company. Netflix has not provided any explanation as to the reasons for the closure.
