Call of Duty: Warzone’s Battle Royale has received its largest update called Pacific, along with a merger with the recently released Vanguard. One of the most anticipated and important innovations was the Caldera map, which brought a new gaming experience not only thanks to its landscapes and reliefs, different from Verdansk, but also due to new technology in the form of planes, SUVs and trucks. However, this is not all.
In this review, we will consider the main innovations of the large-scale update for Call of Duty: Warzone, where we will share our impressions of the new season, weapons, maps and vehicles. Let’s talk about everything in order.
We are transported to the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, namely to the large Caldera map, stylized as the Second World War. Unlike Verdansk, it has a more saturated relief and there are no skyscrapers at all, where groups of snipers often met. Most importantly, there are practically no completely open and even fields here and you will always have somewhere to hide – boulders of various sizes are scattered everywhere and trees grow, hiding behind which you can buy some time.
In addition, there are much fewer dark areas in the new location, so dark skins will not merge with the environment, as it was in Verdansk. And despite the appearance of many faces of characters with a beige tint, it is easy to identify the enemy even against the background of sand. Also, the developers managed to make sure that the players did not have to wander around the map for a long time in search of opponents. Everything is happening very quickly and the number of battles per square kilometer has increased markedly.
Warzone has acquired a completely different atmosphere, very different from previous seasons, which is likely to please not everyone. Previously, we played in a modern setting and rode in actual transport across the great Verdansk. Now players will have to plunge into the setting of the Second World War.
What a merger without the introduction of new weapons. The new Warzone Pacific has a ton of new gear from Call of Duty: Vanguard, and some already feel very strong. It is also important to note that the weapon that came from the new part of COD contains as many as 10 modifications, unlike the previous guns. How exactly the developers will balance it in the future remains to be seen, but so far it looks intimidating.
With regards to the feeling of the weapon from Vanguard, it shoots in about the same way as in multiplayer – the same recoil and spread, only the damage may be slightly less, or the characters in Warzone are simply “thicker”.
Three new types of weapons have also become available in the game: the Cooper assault rifle (at level 15 of the battle pass), the Gorenko anti-tank rifle, which is capable of quickly destroying ground and air vehicles (at level 31 of the BP), and the Sawtooth melee weapon (at level 37 BP). It is important to note that all of the above is included in the free battle pass. In addition, during the season, two more types will appear: a real katana and a Velgan submachine gun. In general, we will definitely not get bored in the new season.
As you might have guessed from the style of the season, Warzone also received vehicles from the Second World War. We have an SUV, a truck and a real fighter at our disposal. If everything is quite obvious with the first two, then the third really amazed. Now you can become a real pilot, jumping on a plane and fighting in the air with other aces, and with the proper skill, attack enemies on the ground. But do not forget that the aerial technology itself is not so durable and the team can easily destroy it with the help of a firearm.
The rest of the technique was not surprising. Yes, a different design and updated sound, but the control itself remained at about the same level as in Verdansk.
On the new Caldera map, you can find new contracts with larger rewards: “Top Secret” gives a random task, but with a large reward, as well as “Big Game”, where you need to eliminate the leader of the murders. Now even more options for making money are revealed to us.
From the very beginning of the game, you can see boxes with equipment on the map, which will give you both weapons and a good supply of money. In addition, the loot chests will update over time, rather than just staying open for the rest of the fighting. Thus, you will never be left without loot, especially for people from the Gulag.
Finally, a new anti-cheat RICOCHET will be introduced into Warzone, which is designed to fight against numerous users of prohibited software. At the moment, anti-cheat is only available for the Asia-Pacific region and will soon be available worldwide. Perhaps now we will not suffer from cheaters, or at least there will be a little less of them.
Characters from Call of Duty: Vanguard have made it to Warzone. Now you can play as the legendary Pauline, professional pilot Wade and other heroes of the storyline.
The Battle Pass rewards are still varied. A total of 100 stages are available, and some of them have two rewards: one exclusively for Vanguard, and the other for Warzone inclusive. You can get a variety of specialist skins, beautiful weapon blueprints, vehicle skins, and many other cosmetic items. Of the 100 Battle Pass levels, 25 are available for free.
In general, the impressions from the gameplay were only positive. Of course, it’s sad that we will no longer see Verdansk, loved by many, but it is impossible to please everyone, and the project needs to develop. Moreover, the new map feels more balanced, since you always have some kind of cover even in open areas and now you don’t have to look for hiding opponents for ten minutes.
The new weapons feel really new and there is no impression that they are slightly altered old layouts, which are stretched over other skins. Of course, even after playing quite a bit, you begin to understand which guns will become a real meta, so the developers have a lot of work ahead with the balance.
