Jimmy Smits has joined the cast of the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryll Dixon, which will premiere in 2027.

The actor is known for his roles in “Star Wars” (Bail Organa), “Sons of Anarchy”, “Dexter” and other shows.

“Welcome home, son,” Smits’ character says to a confused and bloodied Daryll Dixon before the shot fades to black. Smits will play Captain Alejandro Perkins, a former US Navy officer and military doctor who has found his own way to survive and thrive during a zombie apocalypse.

The third season of the series talked about how Carol and Daryll continued their journey home to loved ones. Attempts to return back again and again took the heroes further and further from the goal, leading them through unfamiliar lands with constantly changing conditions, where the characters faced various consequences of the invasion of walkers.

In the final season, as they traverse the ravaged wastes of Spain, Daryll and Carol cling to hope and each other as uncertainty about their future continues to mount.

The end of the story was announced back in 2025. Showrunner David Zabel then said that the final season will allow the story of Daryll and Carol in Spain to be fully completed, and it will be emotional and powerful.

Apparently, there are no plans to kill Daryl – one day he still has to meet with Rick.
