Recently, MMORPG New World is available not only on PC, but also on current generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However this caused negative reaction from some veterans of the game, and real persecution of console players began in chats. While many are enjoying Aeternum’s major update and are seeing good cross-play activity on the servers, some of them are being spoiled by toxic behavior. Especially in chats you can see a lot of insults and attempts at trolling towards those who came from consoles.
Part of the PC community believes that the changes in the Aeternum update were made primarily for the convenience of console players. This concerns, for example, the interface and settings, which causes criticism among those who like to play using a keyboard and mouse. As noted in comments on Reddit and Steam, Amazon Games “forgot” about the old audience and focused on attracting new ones from consoles, since there are more opportunities for monetization there. This only fuels the conflict between different groups of players.
Many posts have appeared on Reddit in which players share their impressions of the current situation. User MikeBizzleVT noted that 90% of messages in the global chat are negative towards console players, and AtlasJQ said that he and his friends on PS5 had to turn off the chat due to a large amount of spam and toxic messages that greatly spoiled the atmosphere of the game. Other players also claim that they had to completely mute the global chat in order to avoid a continuous stream of insults and ridicule from the so-called “PC elite”.
This is just a small sampling of the current New World chat situation, but it reflects the growing divide between PC and console players. However, for those who only want to play with other console players, there is an option to select dedicated servers after disabling the cross-play feature in the settings. The Mardi server is exclusively for PlayStation players, while Iroko can only be played by Xbox owners. These game worlds are intended exclusively for console users, but by default they are not displayed if cross-platform multiplayer is activated.
