Olden Era will satisfy the needs of fans of fast and slow matches

The developers of the turn-based strategy Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era have published a new blog that delved into the details of the gameplay and explained how modern trends have influenced the classic formula of the game. One of the key topics was the development of randomly generated maps and templates for single and multiplayer modes. The blog highlights that many players still appreciate the classic “slow” pace, but the modern community prefers faster matches, especially in competitive mode.

The most popular competitive template, Jebus Cross, is a prime example of fast-paced gameplay: matches on it take place over several in-game weeks, which significantly speeds up gameplay compared to the original game. However, the developers believe that it is important to support different playstyles, so Olden Era also offers slower sessions on larger maps where players can focus on long-term strategies.

Particular attention is paid to such classic strategies as the use of “chains of heroes” and “ones”. Chains allow you to effectively transfer armies and artifacts between heroes, speeding up exploration of the map and completion of tasks. In Olden Era, this mechanic was retained, and for those who find it too difficult, alternative methods were added, for example, special buildings for transferring troops or the “Gathering!” spell, which allows you to transfer artifacts and troops between heroes at a distance.

The developers also did not forget about “units” – small units that play an important role in battles with stronger opponents. In Olden Era, their use has become more convenient thanks to a number of interface improvements, as well as the introduction of new mechanics, such as the Inevitability spell, which deals damage to single units.

Finally, the blog touches on the important topic of single-player mode, which is a fast and straightforward option for single-hero play. This mode is ideal for beginners as it reduces micromanagement and allows you to focus on key aspects of gameplay. The developers promised to reveal more details in future publications.
