While OnePlus has already rolled out the Android 11 based Oxygen OS 11 update for the OnePlus 8 and 8T series, the Android 11 update for last year’s 7T series is yet to come. The company has now stated that the Android 11 update will be delayed until next year due to some development cycle issues.
In its official blog, OnePlus reported that Android 11 for Hydrogen OS (OnePlus Android Software for China) had faced data decryption issues after updating Android 11 on the OnePlus 7T series. Because of this, OnePlus postpones the update until early next year… In the meantime, they will work with Qualcomm to resolve this problem. Since Hydrogen OS and Oxygen OS have a very similar codebase, it makes sense to assume that the Oxygen OS 11 update for the OnePlus 7T series will also be delayed.
Lately, OnePlus has been releasing software updates for its smartphones irregularly. The Android 10 update for the OnePlus 6T series, when it was released last year, was already associated with many issues, which also led to delays then. For comparison: the update Oxygen OS 11 for OnePlus 7T series is delayed even more, and because of this, OnePlus’ reputation for timely software updates suffers severely.
