Even before the release of Outriders on April 1, it was clear that the project would be a great success. The fast-paced shooter has regularly hit the Steam charts over the past few weeks, and even the demo has attracted a lot of players.
On February 25, 2021, more than 55,000 players were online at the same time, and at the time of release, the figures had doubled to 112,000 users according to Steamdb. That being said, Outriders is now officially the largest Steam launch from publisher Square Enix in terms of player count. The record was previously held by Deus Ex: Mankind Divided with 52,000 players in 2016.
However, not everything turned out to be as smooth as it seems at first glance. The servers have failed to withstand the onslaught of fans and are currently overloaded. Many people complain about connection errors and inability to log in.
There is also a problem that the interface is not shown to the players. Such problems are not uncommon with the release of large online games, but they are still frustrating. The negative about the problematic launch is also reflected in the Steam reviews, with only 61% positive out of 3,600 submitted reviews.
