At the Game Developers Conference 2025 exhibition, Pearl Abyss held a closed presentation of its new Blackspace Engine game engine. It will be used in the upcoming adventure role action from the third person Crimson Desert.

Blackspace Engine was the result of the studio’s long -term work on the creation of a high -tech platform for developing games with the open world. The developers paid special attention to the realistic graphics, smoothness of animation, detailed physics and a deep system of interaction with the environment, allowing you to create the most immersing the gameplay.

The new engine provides the opportunity to display vast territories in the smallest details without visible loading screens. Players will be able to freely move around various regions, including dense forests, medieval cities, mountain ranges and arid deserts. The environment will change dynamically depending on the conditions.

According to the assurances of the creators, the physical model of the engine has been worked out to the smallest details. In the game, trees, herbal fields, fabric elements of clothing and characters will react to the wind. The environment will become interactive, so that objects in the game will be able to collapse, and the landscape change depending on the actions of the player. For example, weapons or magical attacks will leave visible traces on the surface, enemies will be able to use the environment in battle and so on.

The combat system, implemented using Blackspace Engine, promises to become one of the most detailed among modern action. Pearl Abyss developers paid attention not only to visual effects, but also to collisions. The battles will be more dynamic due to detailed animation of blows, realistic physics of damage and interactivity with the outside world. Enemies will be able to respond to blows differently depending on their strength and direction, as well as use shelters and surroundings.

The graphic part of the engine includes an advanced lighting system and weather effects. Blackspace Engine calculates the behavior of light in real time, even when the rays are disabled, providing a natural color rendering and realistic shadows. Dynamic weather, such as rain, snow and fog, will change not only the appearance of locations, but also influence the behavior of characters. For example, in heavy rain the surfaces will become slippery, and thick fog can limit visibility.

Another feature of the engine was the water and liquid modeling system that uses FFT modeling technology. Realistic waves, flow and ripples on the surface of the water will add depth to visual perception. As developers promise, the water in Crimson Desert will not be just a background element, but a full part of the gameplay.

Crimson Desert’s release is scheduled for the end of 2025. The game will be released on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
