Before the start of this preview, it is worth immediately noting that I missed the original Wreckfest, but at one time I spent a lot of time in the games of the Flatout series. True, I played exclusively in solitary mode, and it was still incredibly fun. Different modes, the ability to turn the car into a piece of iron on wheels and, of course, a magnificent soundtrack – all this made the game unforgettable and forced to spend tens of hours in it. Wreckfest 2 is a kind of spiritual heiress of Flatout, designed to quench the thirst for old fans. Whether it succeeded – so far it is very early to judge.
Wreckfest 2 is now in early access, but even for this stage there is very little content. One mode, three tracks and four cars are rather an alpha level where a very small number of players are allowed to catch critical bugs and collect feedback. In fact, it is, only for access you still need to pay. Even the developers themselves are strongly asked not to buy a game and wait for version 1.0 if you want to get a full -fledged and perfectly optimized game with several modes, dozens of tracks and cars, as well as an expanded career mode. Now we have only the foundation on which the project will be built.
For the first time by launching Wreckfest 2, I chose a solitary mode with bots-not so much to get acquainted with the main mechanics, but because of the habit of Flatout. At the beginning, I was disappointed: 24 cars crowded on a small highway and do not really try to hide each other. Moreover, it seems that an attempt to destroy an enemy car does more harm to you than the benefits due to extremely clumsy control, so all races turn into boring races without any highlight. Developers definitely should make bots more smart and aggressive to satisfy the needs of the singlePleere lovers.
Already without any enthusiasm, I went to the multiplayer, and then the game was revealed completely from a new side. Unlike bots, living players do not follow predictable trajectories, but act as they should in the game about the races for destruction: they melt each other, make mistakes, do not cope with management, arrange mass accidents. The game becomes much more interesting and begins to remotely convey the spirit of the same Flatout. True, the race usually takes place like this: the first places play to win, trying to break away from the rest as far as possible, especially without participating in skirmishes, the lagging behind is trying to at least not be the last, and the main knead occurs in the middle of the peloton. Therefore, sometimes it is better not to pay attention to places and just enjoy gameplay.
Of course, the multiplayer has unpleasant moments, but I would like to hope that they will be decided to release. Firstly, there are few players in the game now. It is understandable, because not everyone is ready to become paid testers at such an early stage. Because of this, you have to sit for a long time and update the list of the lobby to find the right one. The situation is aggravated by the fact that there are no filters here, so it will not work to hide the already walking matches or completely filled lobbies.
By the way, there is no soundtrack in Wreckfest 2. That is, in general! In the Flatout series, music played an important role: it emphasized the dynamics, raised a degree of madness and made races even more fun, and then silence. Obviously, the soundtrack will be added to the release, but so far we have to turn on their playlist. If you decide to try the game at the current stage, it is better to prepare a good selection of music in advance – otherwise the atmosphere will be incomplete.
The review turned out to be short, but there really is really no sense in stretching it. Now Wreckfest 2 is just a workpiece on the basis of which the project will be formed. It is worth buying only if you are 100% sure of the developers and want to support them with a ruble, and at the same time save money, because over time the price will increase. The rest is better to wait for the release and evaluate the full version with all the basic content.
