Rumor: A new part of the Dead Rising series with the hero of the first part is in development

MP1st, citing its own sources, reported the development of a new part of the Dead Rising series from Capcom. The publisher previously announced plans to revive classic franchises, and the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster showed a positive reaction from fans and critics, giving hope for the development of the series. Insiders now confirm that a new main series project is in the works, rather than a remake or remaster.

A new part of Dead Rising has been in development since at least 2023, codenamed Rec. The main character will be fan favorite Frank West. All available information indicates that the game is a direct continuation of the first part, although this has not yet been confirmed. If this is the case, then the plot will likely take place before the events of Dead Rising 2, where the focus was shifted to Chuck Greene.

The new outbreak of the zombie virus will take place in Hollywood, and the main part of the events will take place on the territory of a huge closed film studio. The main antagonist will be an eccentric director who forces Frank and other survivors to undergo various tests in order to film his ideal film. This plot is in keeping with the tradition of a series known for its insane antagonists. It is noteworthy that the villain’s right-hand man is the man whom Frank saves at the beginning of the game. He will film what is happening with a bomb attached to his body.

Frank West will not be left alone as the game introduces important survivors, including actors who took refuge from the disaster. Among the significant characters, a girl is mentioned who is looking for her sister. Famous faces are also expected to return, including Isabella Case, who will help Frank study a new type of zombie virus.

Frank’s signature camera will reportedly return for environmental photography and time limit mechanics. The latter will be implemented through the director’s threats, for example, to blow up the studio if his orders are not carried out. The strong presence of supporting characters in the story could also indicate the return of the survivor rescue mechanic, one of the franchise’s signature elements.

The exact release date is still unknown. Insiders suggest that the release will not take place soon, citing the long development cycles of other announced Capcom projects.
