Smilegate announced a strategic investment and partnership with media company Absurd Ventures, founded by Dan Houser, co-founder and former vice president of creative development at Rockstar Games. The South Korean game developer and publisher announced this event on December 4, 2024.
Absurd Ventures was founded by Houser in 2023 after more than 20 years at Rockstar, where he played a key role in the creation of game series such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. The company’s goal is to develop unique franchises in various fields, including video games, film and animation.
As part of the partnership, Smilegate and Absurd Ventures have agreed to jointly develop new projects that will combine the strengths of both companies. Absurd has already made a name for itself with successful projects such as the audio series A Better Paradise, which debuted at number one on the Apple Fiction chart. In the future, the company plans to release original comics and expand its crime fiction projects with the American Caper series.
