A couple of days ago, domestic and CIS publications announced that Tencent bought out 1C, the publisher of Space Rangers and other games close to the heart. But everyone forgot that 1C Entertainment has almost nothing to do with Russia now.
In the summer of 2021, Tencent submitted a bid to buy 1C Entertainment and later bought back most of the shares. Yes, this is the publisher of IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles, which even has an office in Moscow, but the head office is in Warsaw. That is, the Chinese Tencent bought the Polish company 1C Entertainment.
Some are betting that normal games will now be made in Eastern Europe and the Russian Federation, but your obedient servant looks askance towards China and mobile games. Although after each purchase of a new studio, Tencent declares that it will not interfere with its autonomy in any way. Since 1C Entertainment includes several studios, not all of them will be transferred to work with China – some will work under Tencent’s global subsidiary, Level Infinite.
