In the August extended trailer GTA 6 there was a moment that fans dismantled almost frame by frame and turned into a meme. We’re talking about the scene where Jason does a running backflip off the pier and goes into the clear blue water. Many considered such a trick physically impossible.

On August 27, Rockstar showed almost 30 minutes of gameplay, and over the next few days the community studied every frame of the video for details. There was really a lot of material there, from the interface to the behavior of NPCs. But it was Jason’s jump that began to be called one of the most unrealistic details.

Reactions were that the animation looked “wrong” and stiff. Compared to the other moves in the trailer, the somersault actually looks stiffer and seems to slow down mid-rotation. This gave rise to debate about whether a living person is capable of reproducing something like this.

The answer comes from the athlete and content creator known as Aspen Tree. After a series of unsuccessful attempts, he managed to repeat the trick – a run-up, a two-legged push-off and a backflip with a characteristic pause in the turn.

It is significant that even a trained athlete needed several takes to catch the desired trajectory. That is, animation does not violate the laws of physics, it simply requires a level of training that is inaccessible to most.

The question is more about how organic the movement looks next to the rest of the hero’s animation.

GTA 6 releases November 19th on PS5 and Xbox Series.
