After the release of R2 Mobile, almost all publications, including us, wrote about its similarity with Lineage M. The projects have similar graphics, features, and even gameplay. Apparently, NCSOFT was not happy with this state of affairs and the company sued Webzen for plagiarism.
“Intellectual property rights are the result of long-term research and development, and are a company asset worthy of protection. It had to be done, ”said an NCSOFT spokesman.
Webzen denied involvement in plagiarism and said it was “a genre similarity between the two MMORPGs.” The company plans to resolve the issue peacefully through negotiations, but something suggests that it will not succeed.
This is not the first time NCSOFT has sued for intellectual property infringement. In 2008, she had a dispute with Krafton (formerly Bluehole) over the TERA Online service, and in 2016 a lawsuit with Its Games, a subsidiary of Netmarble, over copying Lineage content.
