Studio DALOAR presented the second part of the development diaries of the mystical thriller The Occultist. In the new release, Godstone: The Place Everyone Remembers, lead technical artist Alexis Sanchez and game designer Alejandro Polo delve into the history of the game’s central location. Godstone Island was originally planned as a utopian settlement for those looking for a new life, but over time it turned into a nightmare-ridden space where the last moments of fear and despair of its inhabitants were frozen.
The game’s protagonist, occultist Alan Rebels, will encounter a world in which time itself seems motionless. The environment conveys history through echoes of the past, turning the island from an ordinary place of action into an active participant in events. The authors emphasize that the visual style of the project is based on the contrast of the aesthetic beauty of nature and the oppressive anxiety emanating from abandoned buildings. Each encounter with the ghostly images of former residents is meant to emphasize the idea that Godstone is not just a keeper of the memory, but a refusal to let go of the tragedies that occurred here.
The Occultist is currently participating in the “Gaming to Be” festival in Steamwhere players can try out a free demo.
